LPVOVA at Celebrate Fairfax

This past weekend was the celebration of Fairfax County at the Fairfax County Government Center. This was my first time attending this event and I was very impressed with how organized and large the event was. They had several stages with a large main stage that Third Eye Blind played at on Friday night! This year, the Libertarian Party of Northern Virginia had a table and booth and we talked to hundreds of fair visitors over the 3-day event.

This event was organized by the lovely Laura Delhomme and had several volunteers throughout the weekend including former National Libertarian Chairman and recent Libertarian Congressional Candidate in district 10 here in Virginia, Bill Redpath.

We had t-shirts and buttons for sale, had lots of cool Statue of Liberty fans (that really were better than the fans passed out by other groups in terms of cooling you off) that we passed out to fair-goers. I walked around with my daughter and passed out fans to people in the crowd in Sunday. We also had over a hundred people take the World's Smallest Political Quiz and found several people interested in becoming active members of the party! The best part of volunteering, though, was being able to introduce the Libertarian Party to people who knew little about it. Sometimes, there is nothing better than spreading the idea of Liberty.

Sunday was the last day of the fair and it was also the day of the giant thunderstorm. Laura had enough insight to pack the table a little early to get all of us out of the fair safely. Thankfully, with our teamwork, we managed to get everything to shelter safely and no one got caught out in the storm... except for me, my husband and daughter taking a mad dash to the car from the shuttle bus... but no harm done! My 2 year-old daughter did look like she was in a state of shock once we were in the car, like she had no idea nature could do that... But, all in all, it was a very successful effort for all involved!

A BIG thank you to all the volunteers (and a giant Thank You to Laura!!) and we hope to have even greater success next year! If you would like to see the entire photo album from Celebrate Fairfax that I took, please click here.
